About Us

Dr. Arthur Bassin developed The Healthy Woman in 1997 to reflect the changing needs of women's healthcare. Besides being a primary care giver for women, we have a strong emphasis on gynecological care, cancer screening, menopausal issues, osteoporosis, infertility, weight loss management and quality of life issues. In addition, all necessary gynecological surgery is performed along with several cosmetic surgeries, such as Liposuction and Vaginal Rejuvenation. The practice no longer provides Obstetrical Care and also involves the utilization of Certified GYN Nurse Practitioners. This means that we can allow ample time for your visits with full discussions of your important issues and concerns.

Nancy Siskowic, RN, MSN, NP

Nancy is a women's healthcare Nurse Practitioner with an interest in mid-life and menopause. She provides routine gynecological care, family planning, and treatment choices related to PMS and menopause. She is also a psychotherapist in private practice in Torrance, CA. Nancy speaks locally and nationally to medical professionals and community groups on PMS and menopause. In addition, she offers Mid-Life Transition seminars at the offices of The Healthy Woman.

Barbara Lawson, RN, CNP. RDMS Infertility Clinical Coordinator UCLA, School of Medicine Chairman: Alan DeCherney, MD

Barbara is a Certified Nurse Practitioner, a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, and an Infertility Specialist. She has been a provider of women’s healthcare at The Healthy Woman for over ten years with her area of expertise focused in infertility. In addition, being an expert, certified ultrasonographer gives her additional valuable skills in infertility.

There are many levels of infertility treatments available today to couples who have not been able to conceive. Barbara’s specialized background and training give her patients a level of infertility expertise that is usually beyond what the local OB/GYN office has to offer. Many couples do not know where to turn when they realize they are having a problem conceiving. When they visit their OB/GYN, they are confronted with a busy doctor focused on OB care with little time or training in infertility. An infertility clinic is impersonal, high tech, and always aggressive. Barbara offers a third option. She takes the time to listen, to carefully evaluate and develop an individual work-up plan. She gives the support and understands the overwhelming emotional roller coaster that can develop during treatment. If a pregnancy has not resulted by a predetermined time, a referral would be initiated to an appropriate invitro center. Her success rate remains a very high 92% and her referral rate is substantially lower than most OB/GYN offices. This means that many couples will not need advanced reproductive techniques

We have also developed personal, strategic relationships with other experienced healthcare professionals that specialize in Acupuncture, Nutrition, Natural Herbs and Vitamins, Massage Therapy, as well as Weight Trainers for women to help with our Healthy Reductions® program. These have all been added to enhance solution options and give our patients informed choices.

Our mission is to provide a venue for integrated and informed quality healthcare for women. We want to empower women to make appropriate healthcare decisions through knowledge and information, while maintaining the traditional partnership between patient and physician, and not through third party managed care organizations.




Our Office

The Healthy Woman is a NON HMO OFFICE, which means that we do not participate in any capitated managed care medical plans. The office currently sees a large number of patients that are enrolled in HMO plans, but also have a P.O.S. (Point of Service) option in their plan. With this option, women can go out of their network to obtain the timely and personalized quality of care they have always been accustomed to. Dr. Bassin participates in many PPO Plans, but will promptly withdraw if the plans attempt to "practice medicine" by managing the patient's care. We are Medicare Providers and cash patients are welcome, with discounts given for payment at the time of service. Our staff, headed by Ms. Tina Brown, will gladly help all patients with their questions regarding insurance, billing, and authorizations. Our office is efficient, friendly, and runs on time because we respect your time. We are dedicated to making your visit with us "hassle free".
